Indiana

We had a whirlwind visit to Indiana this week. We packed as much in as possible and returned home to triple digits yesterday.  My kids loved Northern Indiana Lake Life. We visited the Grands & the Great Grands. My grandfather looked fantastic considering last month we weren't sure he would be with us. We had dinner at Tippecanoe Country Club which is always a treat. The lake was busy with end of season boaters and the hum of the outboards was music to my ears as we dined. My Uncle let us take his boat out on Webster Lake and the Doll took over as Captain. We got to see the Dixie Steamboat & as she passed by I snapped a quick pic of her iconic red paddle. I absolutely love all the lake cottages, and patriotic boat houses.  I enjoyed my fill of Indiana sweet corn which is like no other corn on the planet. My dad rigged a slide out off his pier and we all took turns flying down it. It's looks were deceiving from land... peering over the top rung of the ladder as the waves rocked back and forth proved intimidating to ALL of us... It was so much fun after the initial pass! Hoot even came down head first against my better judgement. The kids loved the sweet confections at Rocket Fiz on Winona Lake and I enjoyed just being there. We drove in from Indianapolis airport so we came through Warsaw on our drive in. I decided to document the sights that almost bring me to tears every time I drive in. When I see 115 I get a little thrill and the corn fields always bring me joy. I didn't photograph it, but as soon as I come into town and see Warsaw Glass Co. I feel like I'm home. I didn't grow up in Indiana, but I visited most summers of my childhood.  The town always welcomed me like I belonged there.  I hated leaving every single time. I was leaving behind my grandparents and my great grandmother. I was leaving behind all the things I loved, the people, the lake, the food,  the fair, the amish country, the BEST grass to walk on barefoot on earth, the corn (it deserves it's own mention a part from the food) the country roads, the farmers markets, the drives with my grandmother, Tippecanoe Country Club, the cold clear lakes, all the things that just feel like home.  I hope my kids loved it as much as I did as a kid.
